Fito Gallardo  Backs Up Friday Night Bad Luck With Saturday Night Win At Southern New Mexico Speedway
The Southern New Mexico Speedway opened its gates to the fans for the return of the USRA Dirt Modifieds, CDM Late Models, USRA Street Stocks  and the Super Trucks.
The CDM Late Models took to the track first and boy, was that a showdown!! Sherman Barnett had the early lead, but the track condition made his car hard to handle. Jeff Whyman, out of Las Lunas, New Mexico, would stay strong and end up with the win.
The USRA Street Stocks came out for their main event next, and that was a show. Chem Station added an extra $100.00 for any Street Stock driver that could win the main starting 15th or farther back. So Donavon Flores took the challenge and started at the rear (beyond 15th). The green waved and Noah Hollingshead in his 3H was up on front leading. Brandon Cruse battled him for several laps, then Jason Ziehl, in the 21z, joined the pair. The three would battle it out. But you know Flores was on the move. Donavon Flores, out of four  headed for the checkers, drove it low going for the win!! He lost it to the birthday boy by inches. Jason Ziehl is back!!
The Super Trucks were in action also and it was a good one. Kenny Alons was trying to sweep the weekend, after a convincing win Friday night at El Paso Speedway Park. Matt Higby and Sherman Barnett were up on front. Barnett had a fast truck, but once Kenny got around him, Sherman had nothing. Kenny Alons motored to his clean sweep.
The USRA Dirt Modifieds came out next for 30 laps around the Southern New Mexico Speedway. Royal Jones, 131, was on the pole with Chris Sims in 0. The green waved and Jones went to work. Bumper Jones, in the 111 machine, was all over the 131. A few laps into the race, Fito Gallardo in that g17, was right behind them. Sherman Barnett went a lap down to your leaders, Barnett was in the low line. Royal bumped him to move over and Fito Gallardo stole it up on the high line like nothing to it.. Late in the main, Bumper went past the 131, and, as time ran out for Bumper, there was no catching up to Fito. So it's Gallardo taking the win for the USRA Dirt Modifieds.
Next Saturday has the USAC/NMMRA NON WING SPRINTS at Southern New Mexico Speedway for a night of action from some of the sport's finest. Be sure to join us at the Speedway for all of the fun.
