It was another scorcher out at the Southern New Mexico Speedway and we're not just talking about the heat. The seventh race of the season for the Total Seal CDM Super Late Model Series presented by Rajin Race Wear brought the crowd to their feet.
There was something for everyone with the Casa Nissan Legends of the Southwest, Barnett Harley Davidson USRA Western Modifieds, USRA Outwest Express Trucking Street Stocks and the show stopping Super Late Models tearing up the track.
Kicking off the mains, Legend driver Mike Zuloaga took the lead off the start but could not hold it for long when Joshua Jackson would come in and snatch the lead from Zuloaga in lap two. Only one caution stood between Jackson and his first win on the season.
Next up, the USRA Western Modifieds put on a show going four wide before revving up for a race to remember. With 20 drivers at the start, the Gallardos took the lead dominating the track with Jacob Gallardo leading the pack until Fito Gallardo got aggressive and passed him. In the final stretch all four Gallardos were in the top five, only split by Royal Jones in fourth, with Fito Gallardo passing the checker flag first.
The USRA Street Stocks started with heat winner Noah Hollingshead in the lead. Hollingshead got loose and Justin Lasiter passed him with six laps to go. Lasiter started in 11th but that wouldn't stop him from getting the win.
In the final event of the night the Super Late Models roared onto the track hoping to take the biggest win of the night. Ricky Thornton being the show stopper, pulled out into the lead and left everyone in his dust in the first stretch of the race. Then Garrett Alberson took the spotlight from Thornton for a while until he went full throttle into the corners of one and two and then overshot turn two letting Thornton take the lead. Thornton saw Alberson using the high line, so he stole it and drove to victory lane in the seventh race of the season for the Total Seal CDM Super Late Model Series Presented by Rajin Race Wear.
Next week head on out to both tracks for the Christy Georges Special. For only $44 you can treat yourself and three friends to not only admission but hot dogs, chips and drinks. You can't beat that price for dinner and a show.
