The ASCS Winged Sprint Cars took to the Southern New Mexico Speedway track last night with the USRA Street Stocks, USRA Limited X-Mods and Super Trucks. The Speedway was pulling out all the stops with tons of giveaways for Father’s Day. Everything from Barbeque grills to tools were given away to lucky ticket holders in the stands.
The Super Trucks were the first out the gate with Walton Kyle Sr. taking the lead. Early on Jay Hart got loose in turn four and spun out, slamming into the wall. After the reset, Kyle Sr. pulled out even further into the lead but not for long. Matt Higby and Sherman Barnett stayed neck and neck battling for second until Kyle Sr. overshot the back straight letting Matt Higby steal the lead. With two laps to go Kyle Sr. steals back the lead in turn four just in time to pass the checker flag first.
Next up the Street Stocks took off with Brandon Cruse holding down the lead with Jason Ziehl right on his back bumper. Cruse and Ziehl went to lap Tamara Pierce in turn four, they spooked Pierce and she spun out, leaving Jason Ziehl with the lead out of the yellow. With seven laps left, Justin Lasiter came up from behind and went door to door with Ziehl until Lasiter sprung to the front of the pack. Lasiter didn’t hold it down for long as David Melton came back from out of nowhere and took the lead just in time for the checker flag.
The X-Mods were seeing green and yellow with two complete restarts right off the back. Once they got going Alex Gonzalez hammered down and sped up to the lead with Justin Allen tight on his bumper. With 15 left to go Gregory Gorham slipped his way in front of Allen to pull into second, but Allen would pull ahead just in time to take second back. Gonzales had already pulled ahead even further and held his lead through the race. Last night at the El Paso Speedway Gonzalez held the lead from green to white but got loose in the last lap losing the win, but he wasn’t going to let that happen tonight ending with his first win ever here at the Southern New Mexico Speedway.
Last up the ASCS Winged Sprint Cars took flight with point leader Kyle “Full Attention” Sager taking a heavy lead. With 18 laps to go there was a huge pile up in the front stretch with Lorne Wafford flipping out, ripping off his wing in turn one ending up on his back bringing the race to a complete stop. With 2 laps left to go Ceaser Fuentes spun out in the fourth with his second yellow taking him out of the race.
Next week come witness something you don’t see every day as drivers rip off their wings for the Non-Wing 360 “Wingless Warriors” race. Hitting the track as well are the Southwest Late Models, USRA Modifieds, USRA Street Stocks, Casa Nissan Legends Cars and Mini Sprints. You can get a family pack for two adults and four kids under the age of 16 for only $30. See you next week for a night out at the races.
