A great night of racing took place at the Southern New Mexico Speedway, and a great battle between the show going on and Mother Nature. It was the return of the USRA Dirt Modifieds, Hornets, Southwest Late Models, USRA Street Stocks, and the Bombers.
The Southwest Late Models put one good fast, simple show. Nitta Deetz lead the whole race until a late caution came out for Billy Roy Harris spinning in turn two with four laps to go. On the restart Scott Logston just went all out on the high line and passed Deetz for the Southwest Late Model main event win. Logston has cleaned sweeped the weekend twice already this 2014 season.
The USRA Street Stocks was more like a "Brandon Cruse show" Brandon lead the whole entire way, with Justin Lasiter behind him. Justin Lasiter would spin in turn three later. Brandon Cruse would wax the whole field by winning the Street Stock main event from flag to flag.
In the Hornets Todd Froats was hungry for another win and you could tell!! Larry Maag would lead with Todd Froats bumping him on the back telling him he's right there. Later Froats got loose, and slowed down through the race. Ben Ives jumped to second, but Larry Maag wasn't going to let anyone pass him. Once Larry Maag has the lead it's hard to take away. It's like trying to take a bone away from a dog. Larry Maag would win the Hornet main.
The Bombers was a quick and simple race also. A fast race track, and George La Rose had the fast car. That 44x machine jumped to the lead and was never seen again! George was gone, the battle was for second as it was Mike Mays, and Gary Mays going at it, and talk about an "aMAYSing" battle. George La Rose would win the Bombers main event, with Mike Mays coming in runner up.
The track was excellent for some USRA Modified racing. Chad Falco on the pole again, with Royal Jones to his outside. Chad would lead the opening laps, until Royal passed him, followed by Fito Gallardo. Royal left Fito a half lap behind! Royal Jones was on the hammer tonight. Royal was leading and Fito couldn't find himself around the 131. Later Royal Jones just flew off of turn number two as his motor just called the night early. Fito Gallardo would just leave the rest of your field behind! Gallardo would win by a whole half track, with Sherman Barnett coming home in second.
Mother Nature may of slowed the show down, but she didn't stop us from what we love to do tonight. Congratulations to all our winners tonight, and thank you to all the loyal fans that came out to the Southern New Mexico Speedway tonight. Hope to see you all next week for the return of the ASCS 305 Winged Sprint Cars!
