Wes Wofford captured the opening night of the 305 Sprint Shootout.

Fans filed into the Southern New Mexico Speedway for a stellar opening to the 2018 Season. Eighty cars were on hand for night one of two for the 305 Sprint Shootout presented by Interstate Batteries. The reigning Lucas Oil POWRi 305-Winged Sprint Car Track Champion Wes Wofford would wheel his way to victory over Hardy, Hulsey, and Herrera. The Sun Valley Hardware USRA Stock Cars, American Documents & Dent Works Super Trucks, Casa Nissan Legends of the Southwest, and Mini Sprints all made the night a good time.

Walton Kyle Sr and Dave Deetz lead the twenty-truck field to the green in their twenty-lap feature and put on a show! Walton would lead early with Deetz following near. A caution flew on lap five for a tractor tire on corner four. On the restart Dave Deetz had his 01-truck firing on all eight cylinders. Deetz and Kyle Sr went side by side for the lead. Deetz would find himself leading on lap seven. Walton Kyle Sr would try to come back and battle but Deetz would run away to win the first American Documents & Dent Works Super Truck main event of the year.

Donovan Flores set the front row with Jason Josselyn in the Sun Valley Hardware USRA Stock Car field. Flores would take off to lead lap one until a caution flew on lap two for Don Kleine and Craig Rice clashing in turn four. On the restart Flores would run away to a straightaway lead and never be seen again. Donovan would win the opening round of Sun Valley Hardware USRA Stock Car action.

Twenty-laps for the Casa Nissan Legends with fifteen cars was a good one. Tyler Beiter established the front row with your 2017 Casa Nissan Legends track champion Dylan Harris. Beiter would lead lap one over Harris by a good little gap until a caution flew for Peter Smith spun in turn one. Dylan Harris would power to the lead until another caution flew on lap four for Eli Woody spun in turns one and two forcing Asa Flores to sky rocket off one and two. Flores would rejoin the field. Dylan Harris would jump back to a healthy lead with Cameron Sogge on his rear bumper! Sogge came alive with Daniel Blaeser charging as well! Sogge and Blaeser would battle for second with Blaeser winning the battle. Both drivers were wicked fast both trying to chase down Harris. Blaeser gave Harris a couple love taps warning him he was there. Harris would slip in two making it even closer when a caution flew with three to go! On the restart all three drivers hugged the bottom searching for every ounce of horsepower. Dylan Harris would lead them to the checker ad Blaeser tried a last corner coming to the line but fell short. “This season is going to be really fun with Sogge and Blaeser because he’s really smooth and good and hard to beat if he isn’t already” said Harris in victory lane as the 2017 Champion sees a lot of talent in this year’s 2018 Casa Nissan Legends field.

Seven Mini Sprints checked in for battle as Spencer Hill and Mason Keefer set the front row. Ten laps was to easy for Hill as he ran away quickly with Keefer following. Lap seven called for lapped traffic, but it wasn’t a problem for Hill as he passed them one by one still cutting laps of the scoreboard. Spencer Hill would win the Mini Sprint feature in night one of two for the 305 Sprint Shootout presented by Interstate Batteries.

Fans were thrilled for Winged Sprint Car action at the Southern New Mexico Speedway as twenty-eight Lucas Oil POWRi 305 Winged Sprint Cars checked in for battle. Four drivers wouldn’t transfer from the b-main, but eight would calling for a twenty-four-car field. Thirty laps was the distance for the Lucas Oil POWRi 305 Winged Sprint Cars. Jake Bubak would set the front row with Robert Herrera. It was a slick track at the start calling for a beefy Bubak lead. A caution flew on lap seven for Ricky Holden coming to a stop entering the pits. Bubak would get back to work with Wes Wofford charging hot! Wofford would find himself in the lead on lap eight. Wes would create a comfy lead until heavy lapped traffic surrounded tour leaders on lap twelve. It was a six-car roadblock with Bubak, Wofford, and John Carney II going three wide for the lead! Wofford would pull away until a caution flew on lap twenty-two for the turn four tractor tire on the race track. On the restart John Carney II and Bubak battled hard for second with Carney wining the battle. With two laps to go Carney passed Wofford for the lead in turn two! Bubak would also get Wofford. Track conditions would rubber up causing Hoosier Tires to fade. A tire on John Carney II’s car would blow up! With one lap to go Bubak took the lead until his tire also blew up! Wes Wofford would take advantage and win the opening round of the Southern New Mexico Speedway for the 305 Sprint Shootout presented by Interstate Batteries.
