Jake Gallardo won the Rancho Milagro USRA Modified feature.
Jake Gallardo won the Rancho Milagro USRA Modified feature.

Welcome back Jake Gallardo. After missing the last Modified race, Jake would waste no time in coming back up front. In smooth fashion, with one of the least beat up cars out there; Jake would hold off a late race charge by the current points leader Bumper Jones in the 111 to end up victorious. Welcome back home and welcome back to the front Jake.

The Super Trucks would start off the racing action this Saturday night. With 19 Super Trucks checked in, they would have 3 heat races. Don Kleine would be “smooth as cream cheese on a bagel” in the words of our announcer Ruben Mireles in taking the win in heat 1. Scott Kinney would bring his #13 truck in a close 2nd. Heat 2 would belong to the 21 of Walton Kyle Jr. He would take the lead with 2 to go from Christy Barnett. In some close, but not intentional contact he would win despite kissing the wall. Christy Barnett would come in 2nd. And it would be the L750 of Todd Froats winning Heat 3. Sherman Barnett would come in a close 2nd in his 82 machine. The Main Event would be the Walton Kyle, Jr. show. Swapping positions throughout the race, he would win in commanding fashion. No one had anything for the #21. The battles behind would see various drivers in battling for the top 5. Ultimately with the #22 of Devan Smith falling back to 5th, we would see Sherman Barnett on his 83rd birthday come in 2nd. Lloyd Duffey in his return in the #33 truck would come in 3rd, with Brian Kleine in his UNO truck coming in 4th. After a hard-fought battle for 2nd and 3rd, Devan Smith would round out the top 5 in his #22 truck.

Walton Kyle Jr. won the American Documents & Dent Works Super Truck feature.

With almost as many Claimers as there were Super Trucks, we would have 2 heat races with their 18 entrants. Heat 1 would belong to the 00 of Robert Eddy with the 1x of Chris Gannaway coming in 2nd. Heat 2 would belong to the 24B of Art Davis with the 87S of Stefnie Smith coming in 2nd. The main event would not be so nice to any of the top 4 from the heat races. Early in the race, the 1X of Gannaway would lose a tire completely off the car causing him to spin. Robert Eddy with no place to go would slam into the 1x at the bottom of 2. Neither car would be able to continue. Just a mere lap after taking the win, the 87S of Stefnie Smith would leave the track to cool down and have to restart the race in the rear. Unfortunately, the 24B of Art Davis would also not be able to finish the main either. The Main event would be all the Kelly Moore in the 13M show. Leading most of the race by a quarter of a track at the least, he would finish out the main with the win. The 22T of Jamie Torres would come in a close 2nd. And Gabriel Ledesma in the 54G would come in 3rd, with the 52 of Santa Fe’s own Alfred Hicks in 4th. Rounding out the top 5 would be the 33G of Diana Gonzales.

Kelly Moore won the Clayton Donnelly Roofing Claimer feature.

The USRA Stock cars would take the track next with their 2 heats. Heat 1 would be dominated by Shane McNutt in the #24. After getting by the 2nd place finisher of Paul Telles, Jr in the 48T, there would be no one with anything to stop the young McNutt. Heat 2 would belong to the 171 of Jed Smith, with the return of Jason Privette in the 32B machine coming in 2nd. Remember last week when Donavan Flores in the 07 seemed to stumble on the last lap in the last corner, and Jason Josselyn would hold him off? Donavan wouldn’t make the same mistake this weekend. He would start his move to the number 1 position in the last 4 laps of the race, getting by Mark Morris without the stumble or hiccup he had last weekend. The 21Z would have a strong showing all night. But was unable to hold off the charge of the 07 late in the race. Shane McNutt in the 24 would have a really good race as well, and finish in 3rd. Jason Privette would battle to bring that 32B machine in 4th, and Pete Vargas would round out the top 5 in his 777 machine.

Here come the Modifieds. With 27 USRA Modifieds checked in, we would have 4 solid heats of racing acting. Heat 1 would belong to Mesilla Park’s own Bumper Jones in the 111. Heat 2 would belong to the J17 of Jake Gallardo. Heat 3 would belong to the 131 of Royal Jones. And Todd Harper would win Heat 3 in his 3T machine. The heat race winners would run the first part of the A Main all battling up front and swapping positions. It would be a spin in turns 1 and 2 that would knock the 131 to the back of the pack in the latter part of the race. The 3T of Todd Harper would lose his brakes and leave the track before the end of the race. And the 111 would slide in on the last lap to a 2nd place finish after having to battle with Fito Gallardo in the G17, Carlos Ahumada Jr. in the 65X. Early in the race, Bumper would have his hands full trying to get by the 131 of his Dad Royal and the #9 of Jimmy Ray. Unfortunately for Jimmy Ray, he would get collected in a yellow when the 131 of Jones would be spun in turns 1 and 2 for the 2nd time. This time, the yellow would be called on the J7 of Jake Boles. The various yellows would not deter the J17 of Jake Gallardo however. He would take the lead early on and hold on to win. With some very hard racing going on behind him. He would hold off his Dad Fito in the G17 and uncle Rick Gallardo in the M16 early in the race. Then continue to hold off his Dad and the 65X of Carlos Ahumada Jr. late in the race. Bumper Jones would run out of laps and opportunity to make his way around the J17 and would settle for 2nd place. Fito Gallardo would come in 3rd in the G17 with Carlos Ahumada in the 65x coming home in 4th. Rounding out the top 5 would be the 86 of Jared Perez who would hold on and keep moving forward through all of the yellows during the race.

Don’t forget to mark your calendars for next weekend’s racing action. We will see the return of the Lucas Oil PowRi 305 Sprint Cars, the Late Models, the X-Mods, the Casa Nissan Legends, and the USRA Stock Cars. As always, gates open at 5pm and racing starts at 7:45 pm.
